After Palantir Monday, AMD Tuesday Is the Hardware Answer
Palantir reports after the close Monday. AMD reports after the close Tuesday. One is software and platforms. The other is silicon the AI build still has to buy.
Two prints. Two jobs. One week.
Palantir Technologies will release second-quarter results Monday, August 3, after the U.S. close, with a webcast at 5:00 p.m. Eastern. That date comes from the company's own July 13 notice.
Advanced Micro Devices will report fiscal second-quarter 2026 results Tuesday, August 4, after the close, with management on the webcast at 5:00 p.m. Eastern / 2:00 p.m. Pacific, per AMD's investor relations calendar.
Stack them in that order on purpose. Monday tests a software-and-platforms AI name with heavy government and commercial narrative. Tuesday tests a chip designer the market still uses as a read-through on AI accelerator demand, PC and gaming cycles, and how much of the spend is real silicon versus slideware.
What the street is already baking in
For Palantir, published marks cluster around the low-to-mid 30-cent EPS range depending on the data provider, against company revenue guidance near $1.80 billion for the quarter. The stock's fans will parse U.S. commercial growth, remaining performance obligations, and whether guidance still sounds like an AI platform compounder rather than a government lump.
For AMD, consensus EPS marks sit near the mid-$1.50s on some feeds for the fiscal second quarter, with the call focused on data-center GPU trajectory, CPU share, and how management talks about second-half supply and customer concentration. Exact street numbers move. The job of the print does not: prove the AI hardware order book is still broadening without a guidance trap.
Treat both estimates as weather vanes, not promises. Miss/beat theater is loud. Segment mix and guide language pay the rent.
Why the sequence matters more than either headline alone
Last week already sorted megacaps into spenders and friction names. Amazon's infrastructure-heavy print and Apple's supply-constraint language put "who buys the picks and shovels" back on the board. AMD is closer to the shovel drawer than Palantir is. Palantir is closer to the software layer that claims to turn spend into workflows.
If Palantir rips on commercial AI metrics and AMD stumbles on data-center tone the next night, the market will argue about software capture versus silicon digestion. If both guide clean, bulls will call it confirmation. If both disappoint, the July chip-rout hangover gets a sequel before Friday's jobs report even arrives.
None of that requires you to own either name. It requires you not to treat Monday night as the full AI verdict for the week.
A simple watch list for the two sessions
Palantir Monday night
- Revenue versus the company's own tight guide band
- U.S. commercial growth rate and large-deal commentary
- Forward guide: acceleration language versus digest language
- Whether management leans government durability or commercial breadth
AMD Tuesday night
- Data-center segment growth and GPU commentary
- Gross margin path and any supply or customer-concentration tells
- Second-half framing after a volatile July for chip multiples
- How they talk about competition and inventory without reading as panic
Bottom line
Sunday is the clean map day. Monday after the close is Palantir's software-and-platform exam. Tuesday after the close is AMD's hardware exam. Read them as a pair, then let Friday's labor print grade the macro overlay.
Two answers. One week. No need to pretend they are the same trade.
