BioNTech Names New Chief Executive Officer

BioNTech, a leading biotech company, appoints Guido Oelkers as its new Chief Executive Officer after a six-month search.

Mr. Oelkers comes from Sobi, a Swedish drug company. He was also its CEO. While at Sobi, he made many important deals. He helped license a drug for a lung virus called Synagis. This drug came from AstraZeneca.

He also led Sobi to buy Dova Pharmaceuticals for $915 million. This deal brought the drug Doptelet to Sobi. Doptelet treats a blood problem. Mr. Oelkers also launched a new medicine, Altuviiio, with Sanofi. This drug helps people with bleeding disorders.
