Cancer Vaccine Fails Key Test, More Deaths Seen

A cancer vaccine from BioNTech and Genentech did not help patients and saw more deaths than a control group in a study.

Doctors hoped for good news from a new cancer vaccine. BioNTech and Genentech made this vaccine. It aimed to help people with cancer. But the recent study brought bad news.

The study looked at patients with head and neck cancer. Some patients got the vaccine. Others got a dummy treatment. Sadly, more patients died in the vaccine group. This happened during a Phase 2 trial. The trial has now stopped.

This outcome is a big setback. Another mRNA cancer vaccine showed promise before. That vaccine paired with Merck's drug Keytruda. But BioNTech's vaccine worked alone. It did not use another drug.

Researchers learn from every study. This helps them find better ways to fight cancer. The fight continues for new and safe treatments.
