US Oil Reserve Hits 40-Year Low

America's emergency oil supply dropped to its lowest level since 1983, raising concerns about future energy security.

The United States keeps a large store of oil for emergencies. This reserve, called the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, just hit a major low point. It now holds only 298.7 million barrels of oil. This is the lowest amount since January 1983.

The reserve lost 6.1 million barrels recently. This drop happens as problems in the Middle East make oil supplies tight. This situation puts more pressure on global oil markets.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve protects America from big oil supply shocks. A smaller reserve means less protection if a major crisis happens. This could lead to higher gas prices for everyone.
