US Oil Reserve Hits 40-Year Low
America's emergency oil supply now sits at its lowest level since 1983, raising concerns about future energy security.

The United States keeps a large store of oil for emergencies. This supply, called the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, just hit a 40-year low. It now holds 298.7 million barrels. This is the lowest amount since January 1983.
The reserve dropped by 6.1 million barrels recently. This decline happens as the Middle East faces problems with oil supply. These issues can make oil prices go up for everyone.
Lower oil reserves mean less protection for the country. If a big oil problem happens, the U.S. has less backup. This could lead to higher gas prices and energy costs for families. Keeping enough oil in reserve helps keep prices steady and the economy strong.
